This online guide presents the research highlights, policy statements, and state examples featured in the Repaying Debts report. The policy statements below reflect principles that should guide an initiative to increase financial accountability among people leaving correctional facilities, improve rates of child support collection and victim restitution, and make individuals’ transition from prisons and jails to the community safe and successful. The Justice Center provides technical assistance to state and local policymakers on behalf of the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice, on initiatives designed to improve the likelihood that people released from prisons and jails will successfully reintegrate into the community. Through these efforts, the Justice Center helps jurisdictions build consensus and enhance the design and implementation of collaborative reentry systems, facilitates peer-to-peer learning, and develops a range of print and web-based publications, tools, and policy guides.
