Case managers at La Bodega de la Familia use family mapping instruments and other approaches to assess family (rather than individual) needs and resources among people released from prisons and jails, many of whom are under community supervision. The mapping instruments show the elements of a family and the nature of its relationships, highlighting the family’s strengths as a way to engage family members in the re-entry process. Case managers take a team approach to examining the quality of families’ lives and its impact on their ability to meet the conditions of their community supervision.
