Regional Behavioral Authority and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office

Within a month of admission to the Maricopa County jail, an individual’s demographic information (i.e., name, date of birth, social security number, and gender) is electronically sent by the county Sheriff's Office to the management information system of the Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) of Maricopa County, which oversees the county’s mental health programs. The RBHA information system electronically and simultaneously cross-references the jail roster with the RBHA roster of more than 12,000 clients who receive mental health services in the area. The data link provides for continued identification of clients throughout the day, and it allows RBHA staff to identify individuals who may be eligible for jail mental health diversion program.
