Center for Employment Opportunities, New York City

The Center for Employment Opportunities provides job readiness and placement services to men and women returning from prison and jail or under community supervision in New York City. Its Neighborhood Work Project provides immediate, paid, short-term employment and serves as an "employment lab," offering participants essential skills to rejoin the workforce. Following enrollment, job developers conduct in-depth assessments to obtain the following types of participant information: prior work experience, employment skills, educational attainment, language skills, interests, prior convictions, certifications (e.g., welding), child support obligations, and community supervision requirements (e.g., curfews). This information is stored in a shared database and used by job developers to match individuals with appropriate employment opportunities.
